eClaims

Online claims submission through LifeBenefitsExtra improves accuracy and the need to follow up for missing information which speeds the payment of benefits to beneficiaries.

Single sign-on technology

We link directly to an employer’s or a TPA’s secure benefits enrollment system so employees don’t need to keep track of separate login information for their life insurance provider. Single sign on reduces employees’ questions and problems related to account access.

Stand-alone EOI

Employees of self-administered clients can submit Evidence of Insurability (EOI) online and take advantage of our Real Time Underwriting Response system.

  • Eliminates or reduces the processing of paper forms for medical underwriting
  • Increases accuracy and protects the confidentiality of employees’ health history
  • Speeds processing — a percentage of applications can be approved on the spot without further follow up
  • Applicants needing follow up can schedule paramedical exams online
  • Applicants receive e-mail updates throughout the underwriting process

Beneficiary management

Beneficiaries can be tracked for life insurance as well as other benefits programs.

  • Participants can change beneficiaries online at any time
  • Both benefit administrators and employees can view beneficiary designation information
  • System controls ensure that designations comply with state laws and irrevocable beneficiary rules — protects employers from the liability associated with incorrect beneficiary changes and reduces disputes by beneficiaries over claims
  • Eliminates or reduces the processing of paper forms for beneficiary management
  • Accurate beneficiary information may accelerate claim payment

Solutions for employees

Our suite of online solutions for group life insurance plan participants is offered on four platforms to meet the needs of different employee populations and corporate requirements. Access to these services depends on our service agreement with the employer and the design of the group life plan.

Online enrollment and account management

Our interactive, secure web site, www.lifebenefits.com, is designed to provide employees with a convenient way to enroll in and manage their insurance benefits. The site is designed to be easy to use and we continually test and upgrade it to keep it that way.

Employees can:

  • Enroll online and complete Evidence of Insurability (EOI) in real time with immediate response
  • View information about their group life insurance, including coverage amounts, premiums and beneficiary designations
  • Make changes to their group life insurance and account information – online with e-signature
  • View contribution amounts and loan balances in cash value plans
  • Review the details of their employer’s group life insurance plans, including coverage options available
  • Use a variety of online resources to help with life insurance decisions and investment strategies
  • View and print the current versions of many forms and documents

Integrated contact center

Our contact center gives employees the choice of contact methods through computer-telephone integration. Whether employees contact us by phone, fax, e-mail or online chat, they will receive a timely, personal response.

  • Our contact center is made available during hours established by the employer.
  • When employees have access to a custom phone number for their plan, screen-popping displays provide our customer service representatives (CSRs) with information specific to their coverage so they can discuss specific plan details with employees.
  • If employees are on our web site, the CSR can share the view they see to help them navigate the site.
  • All contacts are tracked and recorded and CSRs are cross-trained to be familiar with needs of specific employee groups. This also removes the common frustration of an employee having to repeat information to different CSRs if the employee needs to call back.

Real time underwriting response

When employees enroll using the LifeBenefits web site, the coverage amount requiring underwriting may be approved in as little as a minute. Here’s how the process works.

  • The employee completes a simple online health questionnaire, attaches their electronic signature and submits the form through a secure connection.
  • In less than 60 seconds the employee receives a reply that the coverage applied for is approved or that more information is required.
  • If a paramedical exam is needed, the employee may schedule the exam time online.

Online document delivery

Employees can choose the method of delivery for documents such as statements, prospectuses and other forms.

  • Documents can be sent electronically.
  • Documents can be sent by US Postal service.
  • The preferred delivery method can be changed at any time.

Online insurance tools

These tools are available to help employees better understand and manage their group life insurance benefit.

  • Password reset help. If signed up for this service, users can easily have their password reset if they forget it.
  • Cash value calculators. Participants covered under a group universal life or variable group universal life policy can find out how their cash value would grow over a certain number of years at a hypothetical rate of return. Investments fluctuate and when redeemed, may be worth more or less than originally invested.
  • Our Asset Allocation Quiz helps participants determine their investing style to assist in making allocations to the subaccounts in a variable group universal life policy.
  • Insurance needs calculator. By plugging in a few key variables, participants receive an estimate of how much life insurance may be adequate to meet their financial needs.

Online bill pay

If insured under a portable policy, employees can take the coverage with them if they leave their employer. Premiums can be paid directly to us by electronic funds transfer, paper bill or through our secure online bill payment site.
